The Physician Office Coder improves cash flow due to filing clean claims by utilizing correct coding practices; complies with Federal, State and Local government regulations; ensures accurate coding; assigns the appropriate level of service under Medical Evaluation and/or Procedures and Management requirements; codes efficiently and appropriately to stay in compliance with the law and regulations overseeing coding; works with physicians and billing staff to resolve patient claims/accounts; develops training programs for physician and appropriate staff members and provides training and guidance for reassurance of the accuracy of coding; keeps informed and prepares operations for approaching changes in coding requirements; remains current with all Insurance and Program information for proper coding and communicate with physicians and office managers as needed; provides assistance to other department staff with questions or problems related to coding practices and requirements in a timely manner.
Required Skills: Coding of claims for professional fees for Physicians or other contracted entities. Will involve close working relationship with physicians and department staff. Develop and maintain provide expert coding guidelines. Reviews professional and hospital chart documentation for accurate CPT and ICD-9 coding and compliance with government regulations. Assists in formulating recommendations based upon the findings and communicates them to the appropriate personnel. Keeps operations informed of all regulatory changes and updates.
High school diploma or equivalent. Associate's degree or equivalent from two year college or technical school preferred.
5 years' experience in coding/insurance process. Multi-specialty experience preferred. Medical records documentation audit experience preferred. Certified procedural coder designation required.
Salary Range: 36-58k (depending on experience, would be Coder I or a Coder II
