ROLE AND PURPOSE:
  • Conduct assessments, develop and implement communication IEPs, collect data, and maintain records and eligibility folders.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification & Experience
  • Master's Degree in Communication Disorders preferred
  • Texas License - Speech-Language Pathology
  • Certificate of Clinical Competency preferred
  • TEA Speech Therapy Certificate

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Conduct comprehensive individual assessment for students referred to special education due to suspected speech impairments
  • Compile assessment data from a variety of sources into written assessment reports for presentation to the ARD committee
  • Comply with special education timelines
  • Determine eligibility for Special Education placement due to the presence of a speech impairment according to district guidelines and make appropriate recommendations to the ARD committee
  • Conference with parents regarding assessment results and students' IEP progress
  • Participate in ARD meetings to assist in interpretation of assessment data and determination of appropriate goals and placement
  • Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with the speech and language goals contained in Individual Education Plan
  • Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level and interest of students
  • Collect and document data regarding students' performance on IEP objectives
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom activities for the improvement of students' communication skills
  • Communicate effectively with administrators, colleagues, students and parents
  • Provide carry-over activities for transition of newly acquired speech patterns to other contexts and situations
  • Conduct speech-language screenings as requested by the RtI committee
  • Maintain eligibility folders in compliance with AISD policies and procedures
  • Establish and update computer data reflecting students' status in Special Education
  • Attend and participate in campus-level department meetings
  • Attend and participate in district-level program meetings
  • Participate in staff development
  • Keep abreast of new research and information concerning students with speech impairments
  • Keep abreast of changes in local, state and federal special education policies and procedures
  • Compile reports as requested by AISD administration building including, but not limited to, SHARS,
  • caseload and end-of-year reports
  • Submit reports in a timely manner
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education
