The Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in the daily activities of the pharmacy.


Long periods of standing and walking. Moderate periods of sitting.

Lifting up to 30 pounds when handling case goods and the visual capability to readily read prescriptions and labels. Provides a positive and professional representation of the organization.Promotes culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, reporting, documentation, and prevention. Maintains hospital standards for a clean and quiet patient environment to maintain a positive patient care experience.Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments in related scope of job role or practice. Adheres to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities.Maintains compliance with organization’s policies, as well as established practices, protocols, and procedures of the position, department, and applicable professional standards. Complies with organizational and regulatory policies for handling confidential patient information.Demonstrates excellent customer service through his/her attitude and actions, consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of the organization.Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and TJC standards and/or standards from other accrediting bodies.
Performance and Transparency FOUNDATIONAL FIVEAbility to describe and conduct a “Huddle” and explain when it is conducted and what is discussed.Ability to describe and conduct a “Brief” and explain when it is conducted and what is discussed.Ability to describe and conduct a “De-Brief” and explain when it is conducted and what is discussed.Ability to describe the “Learning Board” and give an example of what has been put on the learning board in past.Ability to communicate what Executive Patient Safety Rounds (EPSR) are and participate when ESPR’s are conducted

Job Requirements

High school diploma required.

Preferred licensed as a Licensed Vocational Nurse by the State of Texas

Successful completion of a pharmacy technician training course required.Minimum Work Experience of one year of relevant hospital pharmacy technician experience or two years of retail pharmacy experience is preferred. Math and pharmaceutical proficiency must be demonstrated by passing of test..Ability to work quickly with accuracy and meet deadlines..Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.Ability to type 30 words per minute and use basic Windows computer applications.Sound judgment in handling confidential and sensitive issues and material.Ability to interact and work well with the public, remaining professional and courteous under hectic and stressful situations.Proper phone etiquette. Work under supervision of a pharmacist, performs non-judgmental technical duties associated with the distribution of a medication drug order.
Pharmacy Technicians license required
