Clinician (FT/PT/PRN)

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY



The A&R Clinician is responsible for assisting in the process of responding to referrals and other requests for services and information. The A&R Clinician assesses all ages and collaborates with a physician to determine a proper disposition. The A&R Clinician provides technical assistance to the discharge planning process, under the direction of the Director of A&R. The A& R Clinician is often the first contact with the community and therefore excels at providing resources, and support to callers and walk-ins. The A&R Clinician provides general support to the case management program.





QUALIFICATIONS



Education:   Registered Nurse or Master’s Degree in a human relations field required.



Experience:  Preferably two or more years’ experience in intake assessment activities within an acute psychiatric setting. A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a psychiatric hospital setting including customer contact.



Licensure: Licensed to practice in the State of Illinois as a mental health professional is preferred.



Additional Requirements: A working knowledge of the latest DSM and Mental Status Exam. A working knowledge of the Addiction and Recovery field.

Job Requirements

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES



1.      Inquiry calls are documented and processed in accordance with A&R policies.



2.      Patients are assessed and stabilized prior to leaving hospital or admission to hospital arranged.



3.      On call doctor is notified and assisted with patient interview.



4.      Admission paperwork is completed in accordance with hospital policy.



5.      Intake (EMTALA) log is completed with all information documented.



6.      Follow up calls are made to those failing to show up for appointments.



7.      Pre-certification is obtained in accordance with insurance requirements.



8.      Guest relations are demonstrated by example and employees in need of guest relations training are counseled.



9.      Administration is notified of problems or significant events.



10.  Safety problems are identified and corrective actions taken.



11.  Medication is obtained after hours as ordered by the physician with proper documentation of drugs removed and accountability maintained.



 





Patient Care Standards



 1.     Ensure programs adhere to specific Standards of Care of Child Patients ages 5 through 11.



 2.     Ensure programs adhere to specific Standards of Care of Adolescent Patients ages 12 through 18.



 3.     Ensure programs adhere to specific Standards of Care of Adult Patients ages 19 through 64.



 4.     Ensure programs adhere to specific Standards of Care of Geriatric Patients ages 65 and older.



 



PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND SPECIAL DEMANDS





1.       Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively with hospital staff, physicians and administration.



2.       Must be able to work effectively and efficiently in an independent role.



3.       Have the ability to sit and stand occasionally and walk frequently, reach above, at or below waist height, kneel, bend, stoop, turn, twist and throw from occasionally to frequently.



4.       Have the ability to communicate clearly and see well enough to read charts, treatment plans and typewritten materials, hear well enough to detect noises on the unit and have the ability to discern odors frequently.



5.       Have the ability to lift and carry 10 pounds frequently, 10-50 pounds occasionally.  Have the ability to handle hazardous/infectious waste frequently.



6.       Be able to remain calm while working efficiently under stressful conditions.



7.       Must possess good communication skills, to include writing techniques for reports and appeals and verbal presentations for telephone interactions and training seminars.



8.       Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position to include both sitting for long periods of time and walking the grounds and units of the facility.



9.       Be capable of the manual dexterity needed to use small business machines.
