Histocompatibility Technologist I

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
To possess technical skills necessary to assume responsibility for performing histocompatibility testing for organ and stem cell transplantation, platelet transfusion and disease risk analysis; and other histocompatibility and immunogenetics testing procedures including chimerism analysis and performance of virtual cross match tests. Performs assigned duties rapidly and accurately. Plans work activities and makes decisions connected with own work while functioning cohesively as a team member. Recognizes unusual results and/or abnormalities and takes prompt, appropriate action to assure the accuracy and validity of test result. Assumes accountability for the appropriate dissemination of patient information to ensure the confidentiality and privacy of patients.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology or an appropriate biological/chemical/medical science from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Minimum one year of histocompatibility testing experience that may include on-the-job training in histocompatibility techniques is preferred; competency in all test procedures offered by this Laboratory is preferred.

OR

  • Equivalent training that qualifies an individual to perform high-complexity testing under CLIA '88 Regulations as currently modified is required.
  • Eligibility for certification as a Histocompatibility Technologist by the American Board for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ABHI) preferred.
  • Certification as a Histocompatibility Technologist by the American Board for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ABHI) is preferred.
