Medical Billing Specialist - Staten Island, New York

CSI Professional is actively seeking a Medical Billing Specialist for our client located in the Staten Island, NY area. This is an exciting opportunity to join our client’s, the second largest U.S. provider of orthopedic bracing, team!

Hours: 40 hours/week, 8 AM - 5 PM

Pay: Based on experience

Location: Staten Island, NY, 10016

Job Summary:

The Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for coordinating patient and insurance billing for DME, orthotic and prosthetic devices, meeting accuracy, compliance and productivity standards. S/he reviews all claims to assure proper documentation, prior authorization and patient eligibility are met to achieve successful payment of claims, while providing exceptional customer service to patients, business partners and customers.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework/trade certificate preferred.
  • Working knowledge of medical insurance/medical terminology; insurance cards and major medical benefits; insurance rules and contracts.
  • Previous experience in medical billing
  • EMR experience preferred
  • Computer proficient to include web browser/internet search, MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point capabilities. Technical competence includes the ability to learn new software and systems.
  • Ability to maintain consistent, regular attendance and punctuality.

Essential Job Functions

  • Checks patients in/out
  • Performs patient registration
  • Verifies benefits and pre-authorizations, authorizations; contacts patients to inform them of their benefits and collects co-Insurance into internal system
  • Researches and corrects invalid or incorrect patient demographics, insurance inaccuracies and detailed written orders.
  • Follows and upholds all HIPAA standards and guidelines while discussing and accessing patient information.
  • Supports and serves as point of contact for sales and service representatives regarding patients, orders and account issues to address.
  • Schedules and facilitates calls with assigned sales and services representatives to assist in obtaining outstanding items and corrective education.
  • Coordinates and facilitates new orders from the field representatives including scheduling of delivery/pickup of braces and ancillary products.
  • Follows up on outstanding items until completed in SOP/Work Instruction designated time frames.
  • Maintains and updates skills by collaborating with peers, participating in assigned company courses as well as reviewing and implementing new SOPs and Work Instructions.
  • Answers incoming calls tends to mail, overnight shipping, faxes, copies, scans, files, purchases office supplies, creates general correspondence and other similar duties to ensure efficient office operations.
  • Meets daily, weekly, and monthly objectives including claim processing, revenue, and achievement of scorecard expectations.
  • Supports all other medical billing and PSC tasks as business needs arise.
  • May participate in the fitting and delivery of routine prefabricated orthotic devices and/or soft goods that are non-complex in nature.
