Mental Health Worker

Job Description

Job Summary:




We are seeking candidates who have the patience and committment to provide compassionate care for individuals with mental and behavioral health needs!  Various shifts are available! 



The Mental Health Worker completes delegated aspects of the patient admission and discharge process.  S/he observes patient behaviors, symptoms, and problems and reports findings. 
Duties and Responsibilities: 



  1. Takeke vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, etc.  Report any abnormal findings to the Charge Nurse.  Record the findings in the Patient Care Record.

  2. Perform basic care as instructed by the Registered Nurse.  Such duties include:  weigh and measure patient.



  3. Collect and assist with the collection of urine, sputum, and stool.  Label all specimens for the laboratory and clock-in the time on the lab slip and place them in the appropriate area.  Deliver samples within 15 minutes if stat venipuncture.



  4. Consistently apply and adhere to isolation procedures and techniques.



  5. Bath, dress and assist patients in oral hygiene, along with providing proper hygiene and skin care.



  6. Assist patients in and out of bed for purposes such as the bathroom; to sit in chair; or to walk around.



  7. Ensure patients receive their dietary trays and set-up trays for the patients. Assist and/or feed patients, as needed. Pick-up all dietary trays not picked up by Food & Nutritional Staff.



  8. Document on the Patient Care Record and issues with the patient’s appetite. Inform the Registered Nurse of patient’s appetites. 



  9. Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.  Report discharge planning needs to the nurse and social worker.

  10. Assist in the development, implementation, evaluation, and updating of individualized treatment plans for the adult and geriatric patients (age 18+).



  11. Observe patients’ behavior, symptoms, patterns and deviations and report findings to nurse or supervisor.



  12. Observe and document in the progress notes patients’ reactions to drug and treatment, or any other usual conditions and report adverse reactions to medication or treatment to medical personnel in charge.



  13. Any other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Required Education:
High school diploma or GED. Associates degee in Psychology, Social Work, or related field a plus!




Required Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in an acute psychiatric setting. Two years exp. in acute psychiatric unit in a health care setting highly desirable!
