Graduate of an AOTAaccredited OT program or equivalent.
NBCOT registration andcurrent licensure or ability to obtain in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Completes obligatoryhospital in-services and continuing education for licensure.
Strong clinical skillswith ability to react decisively in emergency situations.
Excellent oral andwritten communication skills.
Familiarity withorganization and functions of each hospital department.
Ability toproblem-solve effectively and handle stress in a positive manner.
Maintain harmoniousrelationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration,and all hospital departments.
Performs comprehensivepatient evaluations and re-evaluations consistent with patient needs and capabilitieselects appropriate activities suited to patient’s physical, mental, socialabilities and adapts program in response to patient and/ or family goals.
Provides quality inand outpatient occupational therapy treatments.
Educates and provideseffective communication skills with patients, family members, andinter-department staff as needed.
Documents patienttreatments daily, submits quarterly status reports, and completes D/C summaries.
Schedules patients, orassists secretary with, in relation to customer service policy.
Communicates withphysicians on a regular basis concerning pt. treatments, response to care.
Fabricates and designsadaptive equipment/splints as needed.
Supervises students asneeded.
Plans and initiatestreatment programs in accordance with OT’s scope of practice.
Demonstrates properrespect and attitude towards customers and co-workers, displaying courtesy,professionalism and sound communication skills.
Maintains work areaand equipment with appropriate infection prevention techniques.
Follows up withpatients that no-show or cancel appointments by phone, documents appropriately.
Attends monthly staffmeetings, coordinates care planning as needed with other disciplines.
Assists teammates withpatient care coverage when needed.
Be able to toleratesitting/ standing for periods up to 45-60 minutes for treatment, documentation,or meetings.
Standing and walkingoften throughout the day depending on schedule in the office and hospital,climbing stairs not necessary, although may be done to reach various floors inthe hospital.
Walking intermittentlythroughout the hospital and clinic on various surfaces.
Lifting – Regularlyassist with lift and transfer of patients in the clinic or in hospitaldepartments from stand-by to maximal assistance up to heavy weights.
Bending – Requiredoften for patient care and departmental duties at levels from floor to overhead.
Reading and Writing –Regularly required to follow job description.
Exposure to infectiousdiseases – occasionally.
Exposure to hazardouswaste – rarely.
