Patient Processing Clerk PRN

Job Description

UP Health System - Bell

Performs receptionist,registration, and clerical duties associated with direct and scheduled patientadmissions.

Ensures that allnecessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is obtained andentered in the registration system with timeliness and accuracy.

Distributes andexplains forms, documents, and educational handouts to patients or familymembers.

Meets with patientor patient's caregiver before or after admission to exchange necessaryinformation and documentation. Provides explanation of process and addressesconcerns and questions.

Communicates withadmitting physician's office, nursing unit staff, and/or other appropriatepersonnel regarding admission to exchange necessary information and determineplacement.

Verifies insurancebenefits and obtains precertification/authorization as necessary. Determinesand accepts required payments, including co-pays and deductibles, or refers tofinancial counselors for follow up.

Followsestablished policies and procedures, objectives, safety standards, andsensitivity to confidential information.

Operatesswitchboard and paging system and routes all calls and requests courteously.Monitors alarm system according to hospital policy.

Maintains,utilizes and provides patients with necessary paperwork per legislativeregulation and Hospital policy.

Obtains anddocuments all intake information on all patients for initial OT/PT/Speechvisits.

Represents BellHospital in welcoming all patients and/or visitors in admitting, outpatientregistration, ancillary registration areas and the emergency department.

Conducts oneselfin a manner appropriate to the maintenance of good guest relations.

Cross-trainswithin the department and business office to effectively handle the functionsof pre-admission, admission, outpatient registration, emergency roomregistration and bed control.

Reviewsadmissions, outpatients and emergency room face sheets and data collected forthoroughness and accuracy of patient information.

Assignsappropriate rooms and hospital services codes in conjunction with nursing staffand physician orders along with proper discharges of all patient types.

Witnesses andobtains patient signatures on all forms required for admission registration.Communicates with nursing staff any incomplete paperwork/signature.

Maintain recordsand paperwork for documentation for patient care as required.

Collectsappropriate money, writes receipts and maintains account information. Depositsmoney and valuables from patients in accordance with hospital practice.

Maintains a wellorganized and clean environment to work at maximum efficiency and prevent thetransmission of infection and disease.

Alerts necessarypersonnel of private pay patients, Medicaid, Medicare and other contractuallygoverned patients to insure proper authorizations are obtained and financialarrangements are made.

Files patientbilling information in the department regularly to maintain current billingfiles.

Updates computerentry information.

Maintain all itemsfor stock.

Report repairissues to IT or Maintenance as appropriate.

Participates instaff meetings, provides input and ideas in a positive and problem solvingmanner.

Maintainsconfidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Support theculture of service excellence throughout the organization.

Actively seek waysto demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and participate inprofessional development opportunities.

Performs otherrelated duties as assigned.

Completes annualeducational requirements.

Understands andadheres to Bell's compliance standards as they appear in Bell's CorporateCompliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.


OtherSkills: Computerand/or keyboarding skills required. Excellent human relations and oral/writtencommunication. Excellent organizational abilities. Demonstrated teamworkskills. Ability to work without direct supervision. Familiaritywith Medical Terminology.

Minimum Education High school diploma or equivalent XRequired

Required Skills Requires critical thinking skills,decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must beable to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Minimum WorkExperience Minimum: 2 years experience as an admitting clerk.
