Western Plains Medical Complex

POSITION SUMMARY:  


The Pharmacist providesadministrative and Pharmaceutical tasks for the Pharmacy Department;  supervises the pharmacy technicians in unit;does distribution system for specific hospital units and medication unitinspections;  participates in multi-disciplinarypatient care plans;  assists in thecontrol, ordering and wastage of controlled substances;  assists in the day-to-day operations involvedwith the Med/Select system, maintains an optimal level of pharmaceuticalinventory through application of effective purchasing procedures with theappropriate contract vendors; develops and maintains external contacts whichinclude medical service representatives from pharmaceutical companies, medicalsupply companies, professional peers from other Kansas hospitals, local retailoutlets, programmers from pharmacy computer support system and state andfederal certification inspectors; adheres to department policies and procedures which conform to state,federal and Joint Commission regulations; performs specific activities required to properly prepare and distributemedications in a timely manner;  reviewsand interprets physician orders for completeness and appropriateness withrespect to the patient's needs; accurately prepares injectable drugs for patient administration;  assures accurate delivery of neededmedications;  provides information,education and counseling to patients, physicians, nurses, pharmacy staff,ancillary hospital care providers and the community relating to medications andthe practice of pharmacy;  displayscomprehensive knowledge of, and conforms to, hospital policies and proceduresas well as state and federal pharmacy regulations;  maintains required compliancedocumentation;  is proactively involvedin monitoring patient response to therapy for efficacy, adverse effects, anddrug interactions;  interacts with thephysician to develop sound therapeutic regimens;  recommends therapy protocols for specificdisease entities;  promotes positivecustomer relations and actively contributes to a supportive and cooperativework environment; protects health and safety of staff by proper handling ofchemicals and drugs;   acts as a resourcefor the maintenance and upgrade of the pharmacy software system;  and performs other related duties asassigned.  The Staff Pharmacistfacilitates the development, implementation, and maintenance of systems thatpromote desirable patient outcomes through safe, appropriate, cost-effectivedrug therapies.  In the absence of thedirector of pharmacy, a staff pharmacist may be required to assume the essentialresponsibilities and perform the duties of the director of pharmacy.


Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Experience Required: BS Pharmacy or Pharm D

1-2 years hospital pharmacy experience preferred

License: Currently licensed to practice pharmacy in the state of Kansas or eligible to obtain license


Education: Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy or equivalent

Certifications: Basic Life Saving required within 2 months of start date
