Provides invasive and non-invasive respiratory care under minimal and indirect supervision. Under the supervision of a physician evaluates cardiopulmonary function, treats cardiopulmonary impairment, assesses treatment effectiveness and cares for patients with deficiencies and abnormalities associated with the cardiopulmonary system, using professional judgment of a highly complex and technical nature, to make independent decisions. Provides patient care to neonate, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients, as assigned.
Assesses patient's physical status by inspection, palpitation, auscultation, percussion, patient behavior and reviewing existing date in patient's record.
Performs the following treatments according to physician orders, explains therapy and therapeutic goals to patient; modifies treatment procedures based on patient response.
Determines appropriateness of prescribed therapy and recommends methods to physician to achieve therapeutic goals including IPPB, Aerosol therapy, Postural drainage and percussion, ultrasonic nebulizer, incentive spirometry, metered dose inhalers and spacers, etc.
Conducts prescribed therapeutic procedures to achieve maintenance of a patient airway, including use of appropriate airways including endotracheal tubes, nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal airways, maintenance of airway humidification, aspiration of secretions, extubating, maintenance if correct ETT cuff pressures and documents procedures in patient and department records.
Performs prescribed therapeutic and diagnostic procedures to achieve and/or document adequate oxygenation including all methods of metering, analyzing, and administering gases.
Selects, assembles, monitors and evaluates mechanical ventilators for proper function and operation, including correction of malfunctions, cleanliness and determines appropriateness use for patient condition.
Provides clinical instruction, direction and in-service training to department staff, physicians, patients and students.
Assists physician performing procedures such as bronchoscopy, Trans tracheal catheter insertion, tracheotomy in intubation and invasive monitoring.
Performs CPR including closed chest compressions and airway management techniques in accordance with the AHA ACLS protocol.

Required Minimum Education: Vocational/Technical Degree
Specialty/Major: Respiratory Therapy
Required: Completion of Respiratory Therapy program as approved by the Ohio Respiratory Care Board. Must hold an active license to practice Respiratory Care in the State of Ohio.
Must maintain C level provider status. Must have thorough understanding of all drugs used in respiratory procedures.
Hours per pay period: 0
Increase the number of per diem employee with the respiratory department.
Will float between SEYH SEBH and SJWH as needed.
Will work holidays, weekend and night coverage as required to meet staffing needs.
