Senior Unix Administrator

We currently have an exciting opportunity available for an experienced Senior Unix Administrator!


The Senior Unix Administrator will under the direction of the Director of Systems and Databases be responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining operating systems, backups, storage, virtualization, and other components in support of business processing requirements. They will also be responsible for the care, upgrades, patching, and security of the operating systems and layered software packages.



Responsibilities

  • Responsible for administration and support of EVPS information systems running Linux (Ubuntu and RHEL) and Unix (HP-UX) and operating systems.
  • Responsible for administration and support of backup systems and software. Develop and implement effective backup strategies for Enterprise Systems.
  • Responsible for the administration and support of storage arrays and SAN network. 
  • Trouble shooting and problem resolution of EVPS systems for training, development and production environments. Provide remote support as needed.
  • Responsible for administration and support of system security, including access, virus management (for storage) and security patch management.
  • Responsible for implementation of software upgrades, including firmware revisions, operating systems, production and software upgrades and other enhancements as required.
  • Research new technologies and make recommendations for hardware, software, network and process/procedure improvements.
  • Respond to requests for technical assistance remaining on-call evenings and weekends for emergencies
  • Adhere to and comply with information systems security. Know and follow Information Systems security policies and procedures. Attend Information Systems security training, when offered.  Report information systems security problems.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Complete special projects as assigned by Director. 


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Computer Related field, preferred.
  • Five years’ experience in administrating Unix and Linux servicers, preferred. 
  • Strong proficiency in Enterprise Unix and Linux systems with working knowledge of databases
  • Strong knowledge of the analysis, installation, modification and support of Unix/Linux operating systems, software, and utilities. 
  • Proficiency in the installation, maintenance, and support of Enterprise storage and SAN networks.
  • Working knowledge of the installation, maintenance, and use of virtualization technology (VmWare).
  • Strong knowledge of scripting and programming in bash, perl, posix shell, as well as a high proficiency in DNS and LDAP (OpenLDAP)
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, teamwork and customer support skills required. 
  • Strong knowledge of Unix/Linux security and firewall management.
  • Working knowledge of AWS including EC2, S3, RedShift, VPC’s, and IAM.
  • Must be able to work efficiently in a team atmosphere. 
  • HIPPA, Sarbanes-Oxley and other critical governmental regulations.
  • Convey thoughts (orally and in writing) in a well-organized, concise manner. Use appropriate grammar and punctuation in written documents.
  • Perform in a consistently-organized manner with strong attention to detail.
  • Perform duties and handle large volumes of work, while working under pressure within tight time constraints, in an environment of changing and competing priorities.
  • Willingness to work on call DBA and Unix rotations in a 7x24 environment and expected to handle a mix of database management and systems responsibilities.
  • Ability to perform professional level technical documentation and presentation.
  • Ability to create and maintain positive and professional business relationships.
  • Proficient at time and priority management.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, teamwork and customer support skills required. 
  • Working knowledge of database definition, structure, documentation, operational guidelines and protection
  • Excellent general computer skills including word processing (Word, Pages, etc), spreadsheet (Excel, Numbers, etc), and email (Outlook).
