Minimum Education


Has completed a Master’s degree in Speech Language-Pathology


Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC) granted by ASHA preferred


Must possess current licensure or ability to obtain in the Commonwealth of Virginia


Completes obligatory hospital in-services and continuing education for licensure

BLS requiredRequired SkillsStrong clinical skills with ability to react decisively in emergency situationsExcellent oral and written communication skillsFamiliarity with organization and functions of each hospital departmentAbility to problem-solve effectively and handle stress in a positive mannerMaintain harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and all hospital departmentsEssential FunctionsPerforms comprehensive patient evaluations and re-evaluations consistent with patient needs and capabilitiesSelects appropriate activities suited to patient’s physical, mental, social abilities and adapts program in response to patient and/ or family goalsProvides quality in and outpatient Speech Language therapy treatmentsEducates and provides effective communication skills with patients, family members, and inter-dept. staff as neededDocuments patient treatments daily, submits quarterly status reports, and completes D/C summariesSchedules patients, or assists secretary with, in relation to customer service policyCommunicates with physicians on a regular basis concerning pt. treatments, response to care Performs MBSS and completes subsequent report PRN if treating in-patientsSupervises students as neededPlans and initiates treatment programs in accordance with SLP’s scope of practiceDemonstrates proper respect and attitude towards customers and co-workers.
