Job Description

UP Health System - Bell

Performs procedures inthe O.R. associated with scrub functions, as directed by a Registered Nurse andprepares surgical suite and instruments, equipment and supplies to assure asafe patient environment.

Followsestablished policies and procedures, objectives, safety standards, andsensitivity to confidential information.

Willing and ableto demonstrate appropriate core competencies annually or as requested.

Upholds standardof strict surgical conscious so that patient safety is top priority.

Prepares for scheduledsurgical cases in a timely fashion assuring that all items have been properlysterilized and are ready to use.

Prepares for caseson surgical schedule by assuring all supplies and instruments are available.Reports any discrepancies to manager in a timely fashion to allow time toretrieve all necessary items.

Providesassistance to surgeon during surgical procedures by:- Providing appropriateinstruments to surgeon as directed.- Maintaining complete sterile technique.-Participating in instrument, needle, and sponge count as directed.

Maintains suppliesrequired for surgical units:- Cleans, sterilizes instruments.- Maintainsknowledge of all re-processing routine and sterilization processes so that,during on call situations and when need demands, surgical tech is capable ofworking in sterile processing department.- Performs terminal cleaning in theSurgical Services Department as required.- Assures adequate departmentalsupplies.- Reports any missing or broken instruments to department manager toensure that replacement equipment is acquired in a timely fashion.- Assistswith and conducts daily and annual inventories of all surgical supplies andequipment.

Appropriatelyhandles all specimens as directed by surgeon. Communicates with circulator toassure proper handling. Reviews specimen's sheet, post procedure, withcirculation to assure proper patient and specimen identification.

Post procedure,reviews that all items used during procedure have been properly documented inpatient medical record for billing and inventory purposes.

Completes alltraining/education required to document competency as to skills orientationlist.

Accepts on-callschedule as outlined and accepts late assignments as necessary.

Demonstrates selfdirected learning and participate in continuing education by attendance atscheduled meetings, regular in-services, and the completion of all annualeducation requirements.

Demonstratesawareness of self responsibility and accountability for personal professionalgrowth.

Maintainsconfidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Support theculture of service excellence throughout the organization.

Actively seek waysto demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and participate inprofessional development opportunities.

Performs otherrelated duties as assigned or requested.

Understands andadheres to Bell's compliance standards as they appear in Bell's CorporateCompliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education Completion of an OR TechnicianCourse and is eligible to be certified as such.

Required Skills Requires critical thinking skills,decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must beable to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Certifications: XBasic Life Support (BLS) Primary Source Verification: American HeartAssociation.
