Job Description

Responsible for the operation of diagnostic MRI equipment for the performance of all MRI procedures at a technical level not requiring direct supervision.  Demonstrated ability to function in another modality.  Must be proficient in the operation of computer equipment and knowledge of software capabilities as pertains to MRI scanning.  May be required to provide routine Radiology coverage on occasion if capable.  Essential Functions:
  1. Responsible for setting techniques, protocols and operating MRI equipment accurately and efficiently at all times.

  2. Greets customers professionally using AIDET and BAMC standards of care.

  3. Able to perform all MRI procedures including head, spine, extremity, abdomen and pelvic exams including MRA.

  4. Knowledgeable and exercises MRI safety for patients, patients families & guests along with BAMC employees.

  5. Share with appropriate personnel, as required any and all clinical information, patient history and pertinent symptoms of each patient prior to performing MRI procedure(s).

  6. Follows MRI examination protocols established with the MRI Supervisor and monitoring radiologist prior to performing the MRI procedure(s).

  7. Demonstrated ability to perform venipuncture.

  8. Prepares and administers IV contrast under the direction of the physician.

  9. Notifies the manager and or director of any variances from established policies and procedures in relationship to safety, quality and patient care.

  10. Responsible for the organization of the daily workload in an effort to efficiently utilize equipment and staff to best suit utilization demands and patient care at all times.

  11. Maintains and monitors MRI computer database and functions as needed.

  12. Performs and monitors quality assurance and calibrates scanner as required to maintain high quality diagnostic images and identify problems.

  13. Initiates notification of appropriate personnel when MRI equipment malfunctions or as indicated by QA activities.

  14. Identifies each patient, reviews each patient’s record for consistency (examination ordered, clinical diagnosis) and records pertinent data on requisition.

  15. Reviews each examination for technical accuracy: presents completed examination to radiologist or interpreting physician.

  16. Assesses patient condition, ensures patient safety by screening all patients prior to entering exam room.

  17. Positions and transports patients as comfortably as possible.

  18. Records diagnostic information on images for review by radiologist or physician.

  19. Can perform IV punctures proficiently

  20. Firm understanding or PAC’s iSite and iSuite (View studies; modify studies, correct exceptions, burn CD’s and load exams in the PAC’s.) Firm understanding of EPIC.

  21. Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with federal and state legal regulations and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) requirements.

  22. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient ranging from newborn to geriatric.

  23. Performs proper computer skills to include all appropriate edits, status changes, charges, and any other process necessary for proper patient charges.

  24. Performs examinations in an accurate and timely manner.

  25. Participates in orientation and training of new employees and students.

  26. Follows established department policies/procedures, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Participates in department quality assurance programs.

  27. Enhances self -growth and development through participation in education programs current literature, in-service meetings and workshops. Maintains required CEU’s.

  28. Participates in own performance appraisal by identifying goals and reviewing progress with supervisor.

  29. Must be able to complete physical, sensory and mental requirements of the position.

Additional Responsibilities:Additional duties as may be assigned by Director of Diagnostic Imaging. QualificationsA graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technologist program recognized by JRCERT. State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services licensure for Radiographer required and registered with the ARRT. If not currently registered in the subspecialty of MRI, must do so within eighteen months of working in that modality.  Strong computer and analytical skills.  Required American Heart Association BCLS within 6 months of hire. Working Conditions:Potential exposures to Latex products, radiation sources, magnetic fields, blood borne pathogens, hazardous materials, and communicable diseases.  Subject to potential electrical and radiation energy hazards.
