Vice President, Housing & Healthcare Initiatives

Summary of Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

The VP, Housing & Healthcare Initiative will be responsible for expanding and strengthening the position of Volunteers of America National Services (“VOANS”) as a national leader in area of affordable housing and health care. Candidates should have a minimum of 3 - 5 years of community development, affordable housing and/or healthcare experience. Must have knowledge of the current regulatory and financial landscape in which VOANS affordable housing and healthcare programs operate. Other duties include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:

  • Pro-actively seeks out and identifies opportunities to enhance the position of VOANS in the intersection of affordable housing and healthcare, including seeking opportunities to leverage funding for such initiatives;

  • Initiates and drives results-oriented initiatives in affordable housing and healthcare within the VOANS portfolio;

  • Prepares materials, grant applications and other information as required to leverage funding opportunities in the area of affordable housing and healthcare;

  • Provides analysis and periodic reports regarding such initiatives and provide needed reports to the regarding the same;

  • Stays current on government policy initiatives to facilitate better coordination between affordable housing and healthcare at the Federal, state and local levels and seeks opportunities for VOANS to participate in those policy discussions;

  • Cultivate and maintain successful relationships with external industry partners, in both the housing/community development space and the health space;

  • Supports Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of VOANS in various affordable housing and healthcare initiatives;

  • Develops strong working relationship with VOANS leadership team in carrying out VOANS strategic initiatives;

  • Provides reports to VOANS Board and Committees of the Board as needed, on affordable housing and healthcare initiatives;

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Experience in demonstrated commitment to improving opportunities for low-income households in the context of community development, affordable housing and/or health sectors. Must have an initiative and entrepreneurial mindset, as well as experience in designing program, leveraging resources and executing housing and/or healthcare strategies. Undergraduate and/or related work experience in the areas of community development, affordable housing, housing and/or healthcare policy, and financing mechanisms for the same; Graduate degree in related area strongly preferred. Expert knowledge of and professional experience in the areas of community development, affordable housing, and/or healthcare. Must have strong organizational skills and demonstrated experience in designing programs, leveraging resources and executing housing and/or healthcare initiatives. Outstanding oral and written communication skills with ability to work effectively in diverse teams, as well as with internal and external stakeholders. Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and effectively manage shifting priorities; and exceptional attention to detail and follow-up capability. Must have a bias for action, strong work ethic, professionalism, customer orientation, and the flexibility to work in a team environment or independently, and under pressure successfully. Proven experience with relationship building; ability to work flexible hours; ability to travel is required.
