The Educator is a registered professional nurse who functions under the direction of the Director, Education. This nurse, through academic preparation, possesses advanced clinical expertise and utilizes this expertise to support learning and the delivery of safe, age appropriate, and culturally aware patient care. The Educator demonstrates knowledge of educational theories, methods of delivery, and the ability to develop and facilitate relevant and effective education for the adult learner. The Educator is a resource to all levels of staff and is responsible for assessing learning needs, planning activities and developing curriculum to address identified needs, and collecting and analyzing data to evaluate education to ensure positive outcomes. The Educator promotes quality, evidence-based practice, and supports nursing research. This nurse actively supports Rutherford Regional Health System in achieving its mission and goals, fosters positive communication and collaborative practice with members of the healthcare team, and serves as a positive role model to promote the professional image of nursing and expertise in professional nursing staff development practice. Additionally, is Responsible for the education of patients and staff regarding the management of diabetic care in both the inpatient and the community setting and Communicates and collaborates with physicians and other members of the health team to provide consistent quality care for patients with wounds. Assists patients with wound healing modalities to achieve the level of independent functioning possible. Complies with the hospital and nursing philosophy and standards while performing job duties and responsibilities. Provides nursing care to patients with ostomies, fistulae, tubes, dermal wounds, and incontinence. This is accomplished primarily through the provision of direct patient care, consultation, setting clinical standards, providing for educational activities, and involvement in research activities.
